Why Celebrate Christmas?

Christmas is a Big Deal

In short, Christmas is about God restoring what was broken. It is about God fulfilling a four thousand year old promise.

The tinsel, commercialism, and frivolity will all pass with the cultures that created them, as they have in previous generations. As shown recently, even family gatherings can be hindered by governments, health, or finances.

At the core of Christmas is the celebration of God’s provision to restore every person who will believe Him back to His original created design, purpose, and relationship.

Adam and Eve chose to decide for themselves what is good and what is evil rather than simply believing that God is good. Every person since then has followed in the same pattern.

Even as God judged them, casting them out of the Garden of Eden, He provided a way for forgiveness and promised ultimate deliverance through “the seed of the woman” who would crush the head of the serpent who deceived them.

Over the next four thousand years, God revealed more of His plan. The Redeemer would come through the line of Seth, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Israel), Judah, and David. He would be Immanuel, God with us. He would be born in Bethlehem, and come out of Egypt. He would be born of a virgin. He would not be a descendent of David through King Jeconiah.

The prophecies specifically pertainjng to this person are many and listed on many other web sites.

The point is that God uniquely fulfilled every promise in the person of Jesus Christ. Immanuel. God with us. The triune God took on human flesh to redeem us.

The Creator came to live among us to redeem us and restore all that our sin had broken; primarily our relationship with and trust in Him.  But also to restore the earth to His intended design.

Through His death , burial, and resurrection, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for the sin that has kept us from a restored relationship with God. Through believing Him we receive the gift of eternal life with Him that He has made available to us.

Christmas is the celebration of the eternal hope that has been made available to all of us who will believe Him. It is also the celebration and the anticipation of His future return to restore the entire earth to His designed purpose.

Christmas is about the opportunity to believe God and receive the greatest gift.

“And this is life eternal to know there the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3
