Let’s imagine for a moment that you are with Jesus after His resurrection from the dead. For forty days He keeps coming back, showing you the Old Testament and proving His resurrection. Acts 1:1-3
At the end of His time with you, Jesus gives you the Great Commission. He tells you to wait until the Holy Spirit comes upon you. Acts 1:4-5 (Which happens ten days after His return to heaven.) Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:46-48, John 20:21, Acts 1:8, Romans 10:13-17, 1 Corinthians 15:34, 2 Corinthians 5:10-20, Galatians 1:16, Ephesians 6:19-20, Philippians 1:5, 12, 18, Colossians 4:3, 1 Thessalonians 1:8, 2 Thessalonians 3:1, 1 Timothy 2:3-4, 2 Timothy 2:2, Titus 2:11, Philemon 1:6, 2 Peter 3:18,
You want to obey Jesus. You want to complete what He told you to do. You want to live by faith in obedience to His word. Here are some questions for you…
- Who is responsible for the Great Commission? (1 Corinthians 15:34, 2 Corinthians 5:10)
- What will you do? (What are the activities and objectives of the Great Commission and who will you go about completing God’s mission in a particular place?)
- How will you do it? (What are the logistics of completing the Great Commission where the glory of Jesus Christ has not yet been made known?)
- Where will you go? (Romans 15:20) (Where could you go where no Christian has gone before to establish thriving churches that truly glorify God?)
- Who will you send? (Romans 10:13-17) (If you were to send someone in your place to people who have no access to the Gospel, who could you send and where would you find such a person?)
- What will be accomplished when you have finished obeying Jesus in a particular location? (What will be established and continuing in the location of your missionary work when you are no longer able to significantly contribute to the work?) 2 Timothy 2:2
- How do you know you have completed your work? (How do you know when your work in a particular location has been accomplished and your pioneering efforts are no longer needed in that location?) Romans 15:23
- What are the roles of the local church in foreign missionary work?
- How does a local church send a missionary?
- Do local churches send people overseas who may not be able to preach in the language of the people where they work? Is there a Biblical pattern for this?
- Where do missionary candidates come from?
- What are the qualifications to become a foreign missionary?
- Are there Biblical qualifications for missionaries?
- Where can a person go to receive missionary training?
- Who sends missionaries overseas? Acts 13:1-2
